California Wine Tasting in Prague

California Wine Tasting in Prague

March 15, 2018 – All day

U.S. Embassy Prague
Tržiště 365/15, Prague

On March 15, 2018, selected industry professionals sampled a diverse selection of reds, whites, and sparkling California wines at the residence of U.S. Ambassador Stephen King.  The wine tasting event organized by the Foreign Agricultural Service of the U.S. Embassy in coordination with a local wine importer (Jan Ecer, Californian Wines company) featured 117 different wines from 28 wineries.  Several winery representatives traveled to Czech Republic to personally display and pour their high-end wines.

Of total U.S. wine exports, 97 percent are from California.  In 2017, the value of California wine exports reached $1.53 billion in winery revenues and 380 million liters (42.2 million cases), according to the Wine Institute of California.  Exports to the Czech Republic in the same period reached 80 thousand liters and $490 thousand, as recorded by the Czech Statistical Office.  The high quality of wines grown and produced in the unique Californian geographic conditions are slowly but surely building their reputation and making their way to Czech consumers with aspirational lifestyle.
