U.S. Wines Tasting – Kyiv, Ukraine

On October 24, 2019, FAS Kyiv, in collaboration with California Wines and Duckhorn Vineyards, hosted a U.S. wine tasting event which sought to promote U.S. wines and counter malign stereotypes. Guests were given the opportunity to taste and become more familiar with wines from California and Washington state. Duckhorn’s Export Sales Manager, Brian Bostwick, gave an impressive presentation on the American wine environment highlighting the quality of American wines, and answered questions from the audience. Local sommelier, Yevheniia Nikolaichuk, who is one of just a few Ukrainians who has received a Level 4 Diploma in Wines and Spirits from WSET, led guests in a structured tasting of the American wines served at the event, noting the characteristics that make the wines unique and suggested foods which would pair well with each wine.

FAS Kyiv organized this tasting event as one of the first steps in promoting U.S. wines, as well as educating local industry about American wine-making and encouraging U.S. exporters to consider the Ukrainian market. This exclusive event featuring American wines was attended by approximately 20 individuals from the Ukrainian food and beverage industry.
