Legendary American Quarter Horse Foals in Czech Republic

In June 2019 the Foreign Agricultural Service at the U.S. Embassy in the Czech Republic assisted with the special shipment of frozen equine genetics addressed to the Czech Quarter Horse Association. The project was funded by a USDA grant through the federal Quality Samples Program (QSP). The beneficiary was the Czech affiliation of the American Quarter Horse Association (AQHA), based in Amarillo, Texas.

This is the first ever project of equine genetics shipped overseas officially supported by the USDA’s QSP and AQHA. It is for the benefit of both the Czech equine gene pool as well as worldwide breeding of this unique horse. Thanks to the QSP, Czech breeders under strict selection criteria have access to the top quality genetics from the famous Texas-based “The Four Sixes” Ranch, with some of the world’s finest American Quarter Horse stallions.

Within the past week Czech mares gave birth to 5 offspring sired by American Quarter Horse stallions. 3 cute colts and 2 sweet fillies are doing fine and make their breeders and all horse-lovers happy! The name contest for one of them coming soon!  

Quarter Horses are so named because of their lighting speed running a quarter mile, the most common run in main street of first American villages and towns. Genetics include Native American ponies, English horses, and wild mustangs. 

More offspring with U.S. genes are expected to be born in 2021. Besides the genetics diversification in the CR, this is a showcase promotion of benefits of the state-of-the-art reproduction techniques. Thanks to this project, the world’s finest American Quarter Horse’s genes will be present in offspring of many future generations of this breed, more and more popular in the Czech Republic.

V České republice se narodí hříbata legendárního plemene American Quarter Horse s geny amerických hřebců

V roce 2019 navázala Zemědělská sekce velvyslanectví (Foreign Agricultural Service) spolupráci s Czech Quarter Horse Association (CZQHA) na projektu, který je je financován z grantu USDA (Ministerstvo zemědělství USA) v rámci Quality Samples Program. CZQHA, česká afilace American Quarter Horse Association (AQHA), sídlící v Amarillo,Texas, byla příjemcem speciální zásilky zmrazených inseminačních dávek z USA. Je to poprvé, kdy USDA a AQHA takto oficiálně podpořily chov unikátního plemene American Quarter Horse mimo území USA. Díky grantu mají čeští chovatelé, pokud splňují přísná výběrová kritéria, přístup k super kvalitnímu genetickému materiálu z proslulého 6666 Ranch v Texasu, v jehož stájích jsou jedni z nejlepších plemenných hřebců.

V uplynulém týdnu se českým klisnám narodilo 5 potomků po amerických #QuarterHorse hřebcích. 3 krásným hřebečkům a 2 roztomilým klisničkám se daří dobře a dělají radost svým chovatelům i všem milovníkům koní. Hlasování o jménu pro jednoho z nich brzy zveřejníme! 

Jméno plemene je odvozeno od vzdálenosti čtvrt míle, oblíbeným dostihem v éře osídlování Ameriky, kterou tento kůň urazí bleskovou rychlostí. Jeho genetický kód je mixem původních koní, anglických plnokrevníků a divokých mustangů. 

Kromě hlavního přínosu, spočívajícího v diverzifikaci a zkvalitnění genofondu, demonstruje tento projekt výhody moderních reprodukčních metod. Díky němu mnoho dalších generací tohoto plemene, které je v ČR stále více populární, ponese kvalitní genetickou výbavu a rodokmen svých amerických otců.
