AmericanIce – Best Flavor Competition at the Volksfest

The U.S. Department of Agriculture provided Berlin ice cream makers with high quality U.S. ingredients, including California walnuts and dried prunes, American dried cranberries, North Carolina sweet potatoes, and California pistachio paste. With these ingredients, ice cream makers created ice cream flavors and sold it at the German American Folk Festival. Six ice cream makers – Bandy Brooks, Eisspatz, Esmeralda’s Inka-Café, Oak & Ice, Prinzeneis und Rosa Canina – competed at the AmericanIce -Best Flavor competition on August 12, 2017. Every ice cream was delicious and the judges had a really tough job.  But, after three hours there was a winner: Sweet Potato Pie from Rosa Canina. Eisspatz with Yum-Yum-Brownie and Esmeralda’s Inka Café shared the 2nd place.

U.S. Acting Ambassador, Jeff Hovenier, takes his job – judging ice cream – very seriously.
