FAS Sofia Promotes U.S. Food Ingredients through Culinary Videos, Bulgaria

April 01, 2018 – All day

In April 2018, FAS Sofia collaborated with Sofia-based HRC Culinary Academy to film two “Diplomacy in the Kitchen” videos to promote U.S. foods and beverages available in Bulgaria.

The first video emphasized the high quality of U.S. products, the availability in local markets, and their unique characteristics.  The video, in English with Bulgarian subtitles, can be found here.  The starter was a U.S. mackerel filet with a U.S.-origin seafood rub, and a California white wine.  The main dish was a Certified Black Angus ribeye with bourbon and maple mustard sauce, and California red wine.  The desert was a Tennessee whiskey cheesecake tart with raisins, popcorn crust, sauces, and a Maine blueberry syrup.

The Embassy’s Public Affairs Officer hosted the second video (here) in the Bulgarian language.   An American officer speaking fluent Bulgarian contributed toward reaching a wider Bulgarian audience.  The three-course menu consisted of a U.S. pistachio-crusted U.S. hake filet with U.S. origin sauces.  The main course was a grilled U.S. hanger steak with U.S.-origin steak sauce and spices.  The desert was a cranberry crème brûlée with bourbon smoked sugar, blueberries, U.S. cranberries, and California almonds.
